Money is no object to Honda success

Speaking to a small number of reporters in Tokyo, Honda Motor Co's Chief Executive Officer Takeo Fukui has suggested that money is no obstacle to the company's desire of winning in Formula One, saying that he would spend £5 billion if that's what was needed.
"When it comes to F1, our score is zero. It kills me," Fukui told Reuters. "If I could fix it with a trillion yen I would, but it's not a problem that money can solve."

A trillion Yen translates to around £5 billion ($10 billion / €6 billion), and represents double the profit generated by the entire Honda Motor Co last year. It's also roughly equal to the cost of 10 years as a team in Formula One.

Fukui, a 63-year old ex-racer and engineer, joined Honda precisely because it was the first Japanese manufacturer to enter Formula One. In the time since Honda rejoined F1, the Brackley based squad have secured 98 points and a single race win. In contrast, arch-rivals Toyota have managed just 57 points in the same period.

"We've done what needs to be done to win," said Fukui. "I think now it's only a matter of waiting."
