Second place Exeter Chiefs play third place Nottingham at sandy Park this saturday (November 8th) and Squanto previews the match for The Tribe. Although Nottingham currently have all sorts of issues off the pitch, the Chiefs will be expecting another hard fought match from one of their closest rivals.

                       Match Preview

                    Exeter Chiefs v Nottingham

This weekend like every other game will be another test for the chiefs, more importantly as the Green and Whites from Nottingham are sitting a position bellow us in the league with a single point’s difference.

Last weekend showed some interesting results with the Pirates winning against Bedford and a reported lack lustre performance from the Chiefs but still a 5 point bonus point win. Also this weekend Bedford play Leeds so the league table could look very different on Monday.

Nottingham have always been a credible side rising through ND1 to be considered as one of the top table teams. Last season both teams took home honours with the Chiefs also taking the scalp of Nottingham in a very wet and flooded EDF cup game to proceed to Twickenham.

On paper the current ND1 league stats for the Chiefs are as follows

·        Played 8

·        Won 6 and Lost 2

·        Most points scored  49

·        Most points conceded 47

Nottingham also boasts one of this year’s ND1 highest point’s scorers with Dave Jackson on 116 points with our nearest contender Steno on 104 points.

Our first match against Nottingham was in April 1925 with a 34-17 win to the Chiefs since then we have played 27 matches with the Chiefs coming out on top with 14 Wins and to Nottingham’s 12 with a single draw.

This weekend’s team returns to a stronger side with a number of players returning to the fold with the partnership of CSS and Steno returning with a quality bench that will be narrowed down.

Off the field this week the reports in the news are of Nottingham’s unfortunate financial troubles. These reports contrast the financial review of our own club at the AGM this week which told a story of a club that is growing, higher bar sales, higher attendance figures and a conference centre that is adding £750 k to our playing budget and has already hit our 5 year target in just 3 years. Our sound financial stability with our asset of Sandy Park has made us the envy of the rest of the division and of the entire league.

I’m predicting a home win but a narrow margin, a bonus point possibly 23 - 10

A very wet Sandy park

It's going to be another close match I think but at least the pitch won't look like a paddy field this time.
