New Bridgestone's
By Cathal
March 30 2005
Minardi tyre supplier Bridgestone will bring a completely new tyre to the Bahrain G.P. in Sakhir. This will be a tyre made specifically for the Sakhir circuit which hopefully the Bridgestone teams can take advantage of.
Its been very common knowledge that the Bridgestone tyre simply isn't good enough this year compared to its rivals Michelin. Many put it town to the vast amount of testing Michelin have been able to do compared to the amount of testing done for Bridgestone, mainly done by the Ferrari team. It can also be said that Bridgestone got themselves into this position in the first place with their relationship with Ferrari but it most be said that Bridgestone have been on top for many years and know how to get right back up their.

This will be a boost for Minardi, currently struggling at the back of the grid with their old car, the only team the new rules have managed to slow down doing the complete opposite that it was supposed to do.

"Bahrain will be an extremely interesting race weekend for Bridgestone. We have raced there just the once in 2004 and will be relying on last year's data as well as the teams' latest simulation figures. The track itself at Bahrain is a combination of tight corners in the first sectors followed by high speed directional changes later on. We therefore need good stability from the cars and tyres. Bahrain also poses a unique challenge in terms of its climatic conditions. There may well be varying levels of sand on the track and although track temperatures last year reached into the fifties earlier on in the weekend, we experienced rain on race day bringing temperatures back into the thirties." says the technical manager of Brisgestone Motorsport.
