Howie Mainwaring opted out of going to the official test weekend held at Snetterton on the 24th March, in preference for a test day at Oulton Park, his local circuit, on Wednesday 26th March. This decision was to prove very decisive, as the Snetterton weekend was snowed out, and most teams did not get any track time at all due to the weather and freezing track temperatures.

Howie, accompanied by his new team, spent all of Wednesday getting the right suspension settings, and generally testing his new Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000 K8 machine.  Supported by Crescent Suzuki in the Superstock category of the British Championship series, Howie is looking forward to the season opener, taking place at Brands Hatch on 4th-6th April, with a new vigour.

For the first time in his racing career Howie has the backing of Crescent Suzuki, which in turn will supply new racing developed parts and technical back up when required, to enhance his machine throughout the season.  Racing under the banner of Lenzkes Racing and guidance of team owner Derek Gulbrandsen, the future for Howie is looking the brightest yet, after the injuries he has sustained in previous years.

During the test session Howie said, “It’s great to be back on a bike again after such a long lay off.  I have been out every weekend on my motocross bike, and every day in the gym keeping fit, and all the injuries I suffered last year are now healed.  My Crescent Suzuki backed GSX-R1000 feels perfect, having now had the track time to get everything settled in and suspension sorted - having a complete new set-up to start the season with is a definite plus for me.

“The team is supplying two bikes, so there is always a machine on standby as a back up should I get a failure on the first bike.  My Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000 feels well planted and is very responsive, I just wanted to spend all day out on the track, and I want to thank Crescent Suzuki, Derek and the whole Lenzkes Racing team for their support.  I am really looking forward to the first race at Brands Hatch, and getting that first race under my belt.  The team backing and the new bikes have given me a new zest to get good consistent results, and hopefully stay injury free throughout the season.”

Team owner Derek Gulbrandsen said, “The weather has been perfect for us here today, with wet conditions in the morning sessions and sunny and dry conditions for the remainder of the afternoon - giving us the opportunity to try our wet and dry settings along with our wet and dry tyres.  Testing has gone well and we now know which way to go with regards setting up the Crescent Suzuki GSX-R1000.  Howie has been on track throughout the day and the bike is handling very well, much as we had expected really.

“The whole team has gelled well and we will be concentrating on getting good consistent results and avoid breakdowns - with having two machines to hand this will give us a good solid footing.  As the only officially backed Crescent Suzuki team in the UK, providing us with their technical expertise and spares throughout this year, we are looking forward to some great racing.”
