Chester 25 Kenilworth 15
By Coventry Telegraph
November 19 2008
CHESTER'S pre-match wine-tasting hospitality offered to Kenilworth's visiting officials was not, unfortunately, extended to the playing field where the home side ran out deserved winners. Kenilworth made a promising start, but they gifted Chester a penalty on 15 minutes to go behind and, unsettled, conceded a converted try a few minutes later. A Glenn Bond penalty hit the upright and then
the crossbar before falling back in play, and Chester added two more unconverted tries on either side of a Paul Thompson try, from a forwards drive, and Bond conversion to take a 20-7 lead into the break.

A Bond penalty cut Kenilworth's deficit to ten points and raised hopes, but as play went from end to end, swift handling by the Chester backs gave them another unconverted try with Thompson's second try, from a scrum pushover, coming just too late to make a difference.
