No driver decision yet
By Kristien Barker October 20 2007
Renault boss Flavio Briatore has claimed that there has been no decision on the driver line up for the Anglo-French team for the 2008 season yet and that there is no rush to make one, speculation is big at the moment with Renault being one of the last teams to decide on its pilots

Recent talk in the paddock have linked Renaults Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen with a swap deal with Mclaren and Spaniard Fernando Alonso coming the other way. Rumours have it that the Spaniard will be joined with Renaults current test driver Nelson Piquet JNR, leaving Fisichella to look for another team but boss Flavio Briatiore  claims that nothing has been decided yet, "Nelsinho is in our team and we haven't yet decided the line-up, the drivers for 2008 for the moment,"

Briatore then  went on to claim that the team were in no rush and that there were plently of options for the French outfit, "We have the option of Fisichella and Kovalainen and of course Nelsinho. We have time, we have time to see what happens and we don't want to decide immediately. We will see what happens in the next few days, few weeks, few months. I don't think we are in any rush to make a decision."

Alonso's management can't prove even a verbal agreement but IMO I would assure there is one. Alonso realized he is not wanted at Mclaren they love puppy Hamilton, they raced against Alonso since mid-season abd when they noticed Alonso was even so faster than they slowed car by more than half a second (have a look on fastest lap times of last two GPs) which never ocurred in his career.
Mclaren was that much in love with puppy ....

I am sure Alonso wants to go back to Renault as he knows people there love him.

Are you guys aware that Alonso publicly said Renault is not his first choice for next year... as recently as today or yesterday? I say put HK and Piquet in the cars, let the Alonso chapter end if he's not appreciative of all this team did for him. I'm sure the R28 will be a much improved car aswell, so he may be eating his words should he take up a drive elsewhere.

"I have not yet spoken with any team," Alonso said, according to El Mundo Deportivo.

"I do not know if McLaren would release me, and if they did, Renault would not be my first choice," he added.

Yep, not suprised he said that anyway, after seeing the performace Renault had this year, what Alonso is after is a winning car, that's all.

nando is after a ferrari driver, that aint happening anytime soon, looks like reno is the most sensible option 4 him, but then again nando is not the smartest tool in the box.

Doubtful, we can't really afford him unless new sponsors come on board as a result. And as a Williams fan, I don't want him with us after what happened this year with McLaren.

What an strange state of affairs. We have a 2 time WDC that most fans don't want driving for their team and a seat about to come vacant at a top F1 team that few, if any, good drivers with ambition want to sit in.

When is the last time that happened?

Who said they did not want Alonso? Renault, Flavio said few time the door is open for him, but the main thing is can or does Alonso want to leave Maccas now? He came from one point to win the WDC, and he knows he's got a winning car but not many other teams can offer him that ATM. And he's got a contract.
