Alonso looking to leave Renault?
By Kristien Barker March 25 2008
Renaults number one driver Fernando Alonso has been linked with a move to world champions Ferrari in recent days. This comes after Brazilian Felipe Massa's disapointing start to the season where he has failed to finish in both races. Rather than squash the rumours Alonso added fuel to the fire.

Fernando Alonso didn't exactly talk down the rumours linking him to Ferrari and even talked about his option to leave the Renault team.

"I'm at Renault because I wanted to get back to winning, like in 2005 and 2006, if not this year then next year," Alonso told Spanish newspaper As.
"But I have an option to leave so I can be in the best possible car, and it is clear Ferrari is one of the best."

Fernando then went on to say it was to early to think about a move

"It's early to talk about moves and rumours, but Massa has had two bad races with mistakes and that has kicked off speculation," Alonso said.

"It's logical, but it's too early."

Re: Alonso looking to leave Renault?
Why not ? A F1 career is super short. A driver has to stay with a winning team or his stock goes straight down the toilet.

The Alonso bashing has started in earnest again. These "comments" are nothing more than fabrications / exagerations by the media to stir up sheet within the renault camp don't you see!.

Ferrari, Renault, deny Alonso-Massa rumours
Massa and Raikkonen firmly under contract
26/03/08 09:19

It remains to be seen how long Alonso will
stick around with Renault

A Ferrari spokesman has plainly dismissed rumours that a deal is already in place to put Fernando Alonso alongside Kimi Raikkonen at the Italian team in 2009.

"There is no arrangement at all with Fernando and Ferrari," he is quoted as saying by The Times.

"We have two drivers already contracted for next year - Mr Kimi Raikkonen and Mr Felipe Massa."

Renault boss Flavio Briatore would also not be drawn on the speculation, despite his driver, Alonso, claiming that the rumours linking himself and Sebastian Vettel with Massa's seat were ‘logical’.

Briatore, though, said it is a "waste of time to get involved in hypothetical daydreams," according to the news agency AP.

"Fernando is a great sportsman who will always give his best, and rumours I never comment on," he added.

well if any1 wants 2 learn how 2 bash your own team, then nando is ur man.

i have never ever qquestioned his driving abilty, 1 of the best in f1 today, but the guy is also the most selfish driver ever, reno have bent over backwards 4 him and only after 2 races he is complaining, instead of motviating the team and helping then move forward.

nando wants everything on a silver platter, but he forgets that u have 2 work ur ass of 4 that., no driver can have a title winning car every single yr of their career, take ms 4 example they guy moved 2 ferrari 2 bring that team back 2 the top, it took them 4 yrs b4 they could do that, but he stuck with them and all that hard work paid of, 5 in row.

". As Piquet is, well... a disappointment!"

Yes but the first race was, well the first race. He finished the second with not much problems. Now it has to be seen where he can race that R28, which on its own is The disappointment.

Re: Alonso looking to leave Renault?
alonso wont leave renault. point

if the press especulates is because massa is been a dissapoint this two races.

he does not play down roumors because they are real and why not use them to hurry up the team to improve?

alonso knew from the begining the team needs time to build the right car and this season is only to work and get things better little by little

and he is enjoying a lot in his old team whitout the silly pressure he was under last year at macca

he will do his best to save the season for the car and try to put the engeneers on the right direction for a competitive 2009 car.

so if everything goes as expected we will see renault back to be champions in about two years time again an then make an hipotetical move to ferrari to fullfill his carrier

only a ferrari debacle can make things to change dramatically
and with todt out now of the team make a speed up of this process.

its in massas hands, but even if he moves to toro rosso with
todt next season i see vettel closer to a ferrari sign next season than alonso.

its more logical to pair vettel with kimi, and replace raikkonen with alonso in the future..make more sense to me.

im sorry but i think this is bullshit.. he didnt join renault in 2005 when they were winning he was in there since 2002 as a test driver .so i dun think its fair when u say he didnt work his ass off.

Alonso not frustrated by Renault form

"As long as you approach the grand prix knowing that (the car is not quick enough) and you have no surprises, then it is not frustrating," he explained.

"It is something I knew from the winter testing. We are not at the level of the top teams, so we need to keep improving.

"It is not the time to give up. It is the time to work even harder than the others, and try to recover the gap. So let's see in the coming races, in the coming months, if we can do a good job with the car and make it more competitive."

So was hekki last year. One cannot expect all the new rookies to start of with a bang.... I am sure Piquet will pick up, only thing is briatori has to show some faith....if he kicks out piquet as well then it will be tough for Renault.

To be successful you need long partnerships...
MS + Ferrari
Mika + Mclaren
KR + Mclaren to quote a few....

Mclaren forever

What a crock of poo. There are more championships won by guys in teams for short term than long term. Michael is the only one in that list that makes sense, however his and Ferrari's partnership was freaky.

What in gods name does KR and McLaren prove?

Thoughtless post.

Re: Alonso looking to leave Renault?
If he does leave renault for ferrari and find that team not o his liking and decides to leave,he will soon find himself without a drive, because most teams will have doubts that he will stay loyal to their team and become disheartened and leave again.

If one is to be involved in building a team, one has to have that kind of commitment. Ferrari has Michael to thank for their resurgence. Although Ferrari has some of the best guys in the business, it could not have bounced back from the late 1990s onward without Michael and his commitment
