BMW Sauber kicks off Belgian GP weekend
By BMW Sauber F1 Team September 5 2008
Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica experienced a trouble-free start to the Belgian Grand Prix weekend. At the "Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps", the pairing completed a total of 51 laps. The 7.004-kilometre track in the Belgian Ardennes is arguably one of the true highlights on the Formula One calendar.

On Friday morning, the drivers had their first opportunity to set-up their cars for the famous "rollercoaster" - and got a high dose of adrenalin in the "Eau Rouge" section.

Robert and Nick both made perfect use of the first 90-minute practice session to evaluate the two different tyre compounds provided by Bridgestone and to work on the set-up of their BMW Sauber F1.08 cars. On his 18th lap, Robert clocked a personal best time of 1:49.139 minutes. This put the Pole 11th on the timesheets.

Nick covered a total of 26 laps, setting a personal best time of 1:49.185 minutes. While the 31-year-old finished 12th, Ferrari's Felipe Massa was the quickest driver of the session. The Brazilian clocked a time of 1:47.284 minutes.

At 14:00hrs local time (13:00hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team will continue its preparation programme for the 13th race of the year.
