"I am not really worried with our positions today, as our competitors must have ran with low fuel levels."
Renault has brought a new engine for this race and the key on the test session was to tune it for the track:
"Today, we went through different mapping solutions for the RS23 engine, we have a new spec engine this week-end and we needed to adapt it to this track. The extra horsepower make a difference, no doubt about it."
The main goal of these test sessions on Friday is to gain an advantage in terms of track knowledge. McNish felt they found the time to balance the car:
"The team also evaluated a few settings in the aerodynamic area. Of course, we also worked a lot on the tyres. In the end, we did a lot of laps and I felt the R23 was fairly well balanced. The track was very cold and the grip was very difficult to find, but it was better towards the end of the session."
