Trulli: I am as good as Alonso
By role
July 15 2003
Italian driver Jarno Trullio has been overshadowed by his team-mate Fernando ALonso for most of the season. Trulli is currently 8th on the Driver's Championship with 13 points for the 39 that Alonso holds at the present time.
A series of incidents in some key races, mainly Malaysia and Spain, has meant that Trulli has lost to potential podium finishes. On Malaysia he was thrown out of contention by an over-confident Michael Schumacher:

"I can say that I lost the pole in Malaysia, but I'm not looking for that. My team-mate is doing very well, he's a very quick team-mate, and I get on very well with him. I'm only saying that I'm as good as him, and I can do the same things he's done. Unfortunately I'm not finishing races!" He said in an interview with Autosport Online.

Trulli knows that if he would not have had to retire in some races he could have much more points by now:

"From the beginning of the season I've been doing really well, but the problem is I never had the chance to show it properly. Many times I raced with a problem and I still did the race but I looked bad and people started to criticise me. The last few races I've had less problems, but again I didn't finish. What really matters is scoring points, and even now, when I'm doing well, I'm not scoring points, so it's a big frustration for me.” Added the Italian.

Next stop is Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, second home for Renault and also for Trulli and Alonso who both have their home in England:

“There are several home races for the team, and Silverstone is one of them. We will have a new aero package, we will probably have a better engine, so we have to keep positive, because we still think we can do it. Obviously third position in the championship is going to be nearly impossible, because of the way it's looking at the moment. Williams have got it right with their car, and they've solved their problems. It's going to be tough, and we didn't test there in June, but we're still developing the car, we're still trying things out.” He concluded.
