Successful work in session two.
In the second practice session for the Australian Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica, successfully continued their preparations for the remainder of the weekend. Both drivers ranked among the top-ten in the final classification.

In a session that was temporarily red-flagged due to a technical failure on Rubens Barrichello's Honda, both Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica successfully completed their scheduled programmes. Track conditions were mainly dry, despite a short light shower 43 minutes before the end of the practice.

Nick covered a total of five stints totalling 27 laps. In his fourth stint, the German set his fastest lap time of 1:27.970, thus temporarily taking second place. In his last outing, however, he failed to improve and dropped back to fifth position. Nevertheless, the gap to second-placed Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) amounted to just 0.220 seconds.

Robert was just as busy as his team-mate. While carrying out tyre evaluations and focusing on set-up work, the Pole completed 26 laps in five stints and also held a top-six position for the majority of the session. At the end of the day, his personal fastest lap time (1:28.281 minutes), set early in his third stint, was some three tenths of a second slower than Nick's. Robert took ninth place on the time sheets.

The first day of the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship season turned out to be a successful one for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. In the third free practice session (Saturday, 11:00 to 12:00hrs local time, 00:00 to 01:00hrs GMT) Nick and Robert will work hard to keep on adapting their BMW Sauber F1.07 to the requirements of the challenging "Albert Park Circuit".
