I must say I really like these kinds of races. They always
bring surprises and odd results. I mean who could ever have dreamt about a
Spyker leading the race with a 30 sec lead over Massa?
Under these circumstances the small teams can join the fight with the bigger
teams. Had the race not been red flagged, Winkelhock might have been in the
points. A 30 sec lead isn’t something you can close down very fast.
I also remember with a warm feeling Fisichella’s (as I was a Jordan fan) win at
Interlagos in an under-performing Jordan EJ13 and Panis winning at Monaco in a
Ligier – this is all proof that the rain can mix up the order of the playing
field.
And what about Alonso driving in the wet?! He stormed from the middle of the
grid to the top in just a lap at a soaking wet Hungaroring last year. Here at
the Nürburgring, he was in a class of his own in the closing stages when the
rain came down. Massa had no chance of defending his place.
A new rain-master is born for sure.
Strategy plays a big role in these kinds of races, of course. We have two teams
that managed the strategy very well in Sunday’s race. These two teams were Red
Bull and Spyker.
Spyker for their spot on move to take Winkelhock in at the end of the formation
lap to put on wet tires! An absolutely brilliant move that could have paid out
if the race wasn’t stopped.... Just sorry that it wasn’t the BMW-Sauber team
that did it instead.
Red Bull made their calls spot on the whole race Webber and David was clearly
slower than the BMWs but with great strategy and luck Webber took 3rd and David
took 5th.
How about our drivers then?! Well what can I say? A come together between
team-mates is never good… and in my opinion, both drivers were at fault for
this (I know many of you do not agree).
Ferrari and McLaren are far ahead of us and we are far ahead of the others
behind us, so this means that Nick and Robert are likely to be side by side on
the grid in the following races.
I really hope the team sits down and discuss this matter so it doesn’t happen
again.
Well anyway we got away with 5 points and we extended our lead to Renault. A
big thank you to the Renault team for screwing Heikki´s 5th place.
It was one hell of a race and I really hope the Hungaroring will be wet as well!
After all we have a podium finish there to defend!
