Monza Test Day 1: Nick In The Cockpit
By BMW Sauber F1 Team August 29 2007
On 9th September, Formula One will visit Monza for the 2007 Italian Grand Prix. Today, Nick Heidfeld took to the track at the classic "Autodromo Nazionale" for the first of three test days. The team are looking forward to the Italian GP, especially after a strong performance at the track last year.

Only two days after the successful race in Turkey, where he finished fourth and collected five World Championship points, Nick was back on duty for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. With temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius, the "Autodromo Internazionale di Monza" offered ideal testing conditions for most of the day. Only towards the end of the session, a rain shower hampered the teams' progress.

Nick completed a total of 76 laps on the 5.793-kilometre track, setting a personal best time of 1:24.277 minutes.

In preparation for the forthcoming Italian Grand Prix on the Monza high-speed track, the team tested a low downforce aero package consisting of a new front and rear wing as well as modified bodywork. Nick started the day working out a baseline set-up. In the afternoon he made various aerodynamic comparisons which enabled the engineers to gather specific data.

On Wednesday Nick will continue testing at Formula One's fastest circuit, before Robert Kubica takes over the BMW Sauber F1.07's wheel on Thursday.
