The two drivers executed different programmes in preparation for the remainder of the Italian GP weekend. Robert completed three stints totalling 22 laps, setting a personal fastest lap time of 1:23.703 minutes. He ranked eighth on the time sheets. The Pole completed his first two stints on the harder of the two compounds available (medium) and changed to the softs for his final stint.
Nick's BMW Sauber F1.07, however, was shod with the soft compound throughout the session, with the German posting consistent lap times. He completed two stints totalling 17 laps and set his personal fastest lap time of 1:23.886 minutes on his first run. Nick had set an even faster lap time, but this time was disallowed as he had 'cut' a chicane.
The fastest lap of the session, which was held in sunny conditions, was posted by Ferrari's Kimi Räikkönen. The Finn lapped the 5.793-kilometre "Autodromo Nazionale di Monza" in 1:22.446 minutes.
In the second free practice session, held from 14:00 to 15:30hrs local time (13:00 to 14:30hrs BST), the BMW Sauber F1 Team will continue its set-up work and tyre evaluations for qualifying and race.
