Technologies which have proved their value at the pinnacle of motorsports are often adapted to the BMW series production so that all BMW drivers can benefit.
"We not only consider Formula One racing as an ideal platform to demonstrate the strengths of the brand BMW," BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen explains: "We are very focussed on using it as a technological transfer for the series production and as an added motivational and educational instrument for our young employees. That justifies all the efforts put into the sport."
The effort invested by the BMW Sauber F1 Team in order to achieve success in Formula One racing is comparatively moderate in any case. "I can't confirm a budget raise for our team," Theissen comments on the discussion surrounding the efficiency of the measures the FIA introduced to lower costs. "Today, we spend far less money on the BMW Sauber F1 Team than we did a few years ago in the cooperation with Williams. In addition, our budget is lower than it was in 2006. Test restrictions, the increase in engine durability and the homologised technology have contributed to this development," Theissen confirms the consequence of the attempts of the FIA and the teams to reduce the costs of an involvement in Formula One racing.
