BMW-Sauber gets New Sponsor
By BMW Sauber F1 Team
November 24 2007
Swiss company Sika will be supporting the BMW Sauber F1 Team as a Promotional Supplier from 2008. Based in Baar, Switzerland, Sika is a speciality chemicals company well known to BMW and already involved in other motor sport projects run by the group. The cooperation began in the 1980s.

BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen: “We are very pleased that this longstanding cooperation is now to be taken up by Formula One. Sika, like ourselves and the other partners of the BMW Sauber F1 Team, has the same aspiration towards perfection in its own products. Beyond that, it also means we will have another Swiss element in our team.”

Sika will be appearing as the Official Partner of the Formula BMW World Final 2007, which takes place this weekend in Valencia, Spain. Their involvement in the event provides the ideal context in which to announce their role as Promotional Supplier to the BMW Sauber F1 Team as of January 2008.

As far back as 1985, BMW and Sika jointly developed the first direct glazing adhesive (Sikaflex ©) for the BMW M3 and for the 7 and 5 Series models that came out in the two subsequent years. Later on, this cooperation was extended to acoustic solutions (SikaBaffle ©) and structural bonding and strengthening for all the BMW Group brands (BMW, MINI, Rolls-Royce) at the production sites around the world.

Sika AG was founded in 1910 and is now a globally operating, innovative speciality chemical company. Sika is a leader in the fields of process materials for sealing, bonding, strengthening and protection of support structures in construction and industry.

Sika’s product range includes high-quality concrete admixtures, special mortars, sealants and adhesives, insulation and strengthening materials, systems for structural strengthening, industrial flooring and vapour barriers. Sika’s complete solutions replace old techniques such as screws, rivets and welding, and open up new possibilities.

Bruno Fritsche, President Business Unit Industry, Member of Group Management of Sika AG: “Our corporate goal is to help our customers to generate value added and always to be one step ahead of the competition. Working with the BMW Sauber F1 Team fits in perfectly with our corporate philosophy.”
