Both Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica were able to celebrate a podium
place in Australia and Malaysia respectively. Although in Formula One
your team-mate is also your fiercest rival, the two drivers do not
begrudge each other's success.
"Robert thoroughly deserved it. He drove a super race," Nick commented
on Robert's second place in Malaysia. "That is our best team result
ever - eleven points. I would prefer Robert to come second rather than
any of the others." Robert also denies that the growing success is
changing the atmosphere between the team-mates. "Not really for me,"
says the Pole. "My competitors on track are 21 other drivers,
regardless of their team appurtenance."
For BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen, perfect teamwork is one of
the most important basic requirements for success in Formula One.
"Teamwork is the key to success," he says. "Of course the basis is
formed by a competitive technical package, but without a
well-integrated, highly motivated team even the best car will not
achieve prolonged success."
