Bahrain GP: The situation prior to the race

On Sunday, the BMW Sauber F1 Team will be in a splendid position when battling for the first GP win in its history. In qualifying for the Bahrain GP, Robert Kubica secured pole position. And five positions behind the Pole, Nick Heidfeld will be waiting for his chance.
- Robert secured the first Formula One pole position of his career at Sakhir. On the grid for last year's race at the "Bahrain International Circuit", he started from sixth position.

- On the grid for the race that will start on Sunday at 14:30hrs local time (12:30hrs BST), Robert will share the first row of the grid with Ferrari's Felipe Massa. While Nick will start two rows behind his team-mate, alongside McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen.

- Consequently, Nick's best grid position on Bahrain's 5.412-kilometre GP circuit remains the fourth place he secured in 2005.

- In the team-internal qualifying battle of the two BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers Robert now holds a 3:0 lead over Nick.

- In Saturday's qualifying session, both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers advanced to the crucial top-ten shootout for the 21st consecutive time.

- The "Bahrain International Circuit" seems to suit Robert really well. In his maiden Bahrain Grand Prix in 2007, the Pole secured a fine sixth place.

- Nick finished all four Bahrain GPs he has contested to date. In 2007, he secured his best result at Sakhir by finishing seventh.
