Spanish GP: Friday. BMW busiest and sandbagging
By BMW Sauber F1 Team April 25 2008
In the second practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix, the BMW Sauber F1 Team carried out another extensive preparation programme. With a total of 78 laps completed, the Munich and Hinwil based squad was busier than all its rivals. .

For the BMW Sauber F1 Team, it was business as usual in the second practice session. The team carried out another extensive programme and focused solely on preparing for the race.

Robert Kubica completed 38 laps comprising five stints. On his 15th lap, he set a personal fastest time of 1:22.788 minutes to finish twelfth. His team-mate, Nick, covered 40 laps, thus being one of the two busiest drivers of the session. The German clocked his personal best time of 1:23.130 minutes on his 16th lap and finished 13th, right behind Robert.

After the session, BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen revealed that the team had to cope with an unfamiliar situation. "When we started our tyre evaluations, we realised that the performance of the two tyre compounds available was virtually identical," he explained. "That's really unusual. Therefore, we carried out numerous long-runs on both specifications to find out more. We will continue the tyre evaluations tomorrow morning."

The BMW Sauber F1 Team will complete its preparations for the remainder of the weekend in the third free practice session, held on Saturday from 11:00 to 12:00hrs CEST (10:00 to 11:00hrs BST).
