Spanish GP: The Situation Prior to the Race
By BMW Sauber F1 Team April 27 2008
By securing fourth position on the grid in Spain, Robert Kubica has continued his streak of good qualifying results. For Nick Heidfeld, it's the ninth time in his F1 career that he has started ninth on a Grand Prix grid. Both drivers have always secured good race results from their respective grid positions.

- Robert qualified fourth at Barcelona. Last year, he was fifth on the grid for the race held at the "Circuit de Catalunya".

- The Pole shares the second row of the grid with Ferrari's Felipe Massa. Nick will start from row five, next to Renault's Nelson Piquet Jr, when the race gets underway on Sunday at 14:00hrs CEST (13:00hrs BST).

- By qualifying fourth, Robert continues his streak of impressive qualifying results in 2008. In every GP weekend of the season to date, the Pole has secured a position on the first or second row of the grid.

- For Nick, it's the ninth time that he is ninth on a Formula One starting grid. Except for the 2002 Brazilian GP, he has always scored points from this position. Robert qualified third for the third time. In the 2007 French GP he finished fourth and in the 2008 Malaysian GP, he worked his way up to finish runner-up.

- Nick's best Spanish GP grid position remains the seventh place he secured last year at the 4.655-kilometre track.

- In the team-internal qualifying battle of the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers, Robert has extended his lead over Nick to 4:0.

- For the 22nd consecutive time, both BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers advanced to the crucial top-ten shootout.

- In the only Spanish GP Robert has contested to date - the event's 2007 edition - the 23-year-old finished fourth.

- Nick has contested the Spanish World Championship round eight times, and in six of these races, he made it to the finish line. The fourth place clinched back in 2002 represents his best Spanish GP result to date. Last year, a technical failure forced him into early retirement.
