British weather on the second day of testing
By BMW Sauber F1 Team June 26 2008
On the second day of testing in Silverstone, Robert Kubica took to the track for the BMW Sauber F1 Team. The 23-year-old covered 67 laps on the 5.141 kilometre "Silverstone Circuit". Blustery, sunny, cloudy, some drizzle and temperatures of up to 18° C degrees: The weather on the second day of testing proved to be typically British.

Under these difficult circumstances, Robert was one of ten drivers, who continued their preparation programme for the British Grand Prix.

Robert covered a total of 344 kilometres on the legendary British track. His fastest lap was recorded at 1:20.982 minutes. McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen (1:20.015 minutes) proved to be the fastest driver of the session.

Two factors meant an early end to testing for Robert and the BMW Sauber F1 Team, but problems with the car was not one of them. The typical British weather meant strong winds and drizzle, which came at precisely 10.56, curtailed the team's plans for aero testing.

Meanwhile the testing restrictions, that limit each team to 30,000 kilometres and 300 sets of tyres a year, meant that over an hour before the session was due to finish at 17.00 (GMT) the team was debriefing. The scheduled programme had been completed and the engineers were making preparations for day three. Part of this test was also with the Bridgestone tyres for the British Grand Prix, and this was completed successfully.

Nick Heidfeld flies in tonight to take over driving duties for day three. The team is now hoping the weather will be kinder to Nick, as the plans are for mechanical and aero testing as well as work on the tyres for the race next week.
