The third practice session at Silverstone began under overcast skies on
a damp track. But over the course of the 60 minutes conditions improved
consistently. These changeable conditions offered the BMW Sauber F1
Team drivers the opportunity of completing stints on both wet and dry
weather tyres.
For the first time in quite a while, Nick proved to be the faster of
the two BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers. The German completed a total of
three stints comprising 22 laps, thus being the busiest driver of the
session - together with Force India's Adrian Sutil. On his 20th lap,
Nick set his personal best time of 1:22.916 minutes, thus securing 15th
position on the time sheets.
His team-mate, Robert, wasn't too happy with the handling of his BMW
Sauber F1.08, particularly in the first half of the session. On the wet
track, he complained of oversteer and was unable to match the pace of
his team-mate. Later in the session, however, on the drying track, he
succeeded in reducing the gap to Nick but failed to close in on him
completely. At the end of the day, Robert clocked a personal fastest
lap time of 1:23.282 minutes and had to settle for finishing 19th.
In the qualifying session beginning at 13:00hrs BST (14:00hrs CEST),
the BMW Sauber F1 Team drivers will give their very best to secure
positions at the front end on the grid which should offer them the
chance of adding more points to the BMW Sauber F1 Team's tally.
