Gloucester top their pool after nervy EDF victory

Big Les - 2 tries

It was a win, it was a bonus point win and Gloucester are clear at the top of their pool in the EDF Energy Cup - but there was an air of disatisfaction at Kingsholm after the match. Lesley Vainikolo came back into the team to score two tries, but it wasn't all plain sailing and Gloucester never really got into gear.

Tindall v DragonsNeither did the officials, and a lot of people must have left Kingsholm wondering when they'll get total satisfaction out of a game this season.
Big Les opened the scoring with a try, but Richard Fussell and Grant Webb replied for the Dragons.
A try from Scott Lawson made it all square at 12-12 at half-time, but Shaun Connor's penalty gave Dragons the lead again before quickfire tries from Big less and Iain Balshaw plus an Olly Barkley penalty gave Gloucester their match-winning platform.
But there was still time for them to put the wind up the crowd again as Jason Tovey scored a late try to narrow the gap.
Dean Ryan told the BBC: "These EDFs are fraught, with the amount of changes you have got to your side, and you put that on top of some mistakes that we are repeating, and we lack cohesion.
"We had similar mistakes last week and it makes some things we did well look rather shaky.
"The Dragons worked very hard and their kicking game in the first half never gave us any field position. You have to give them credit and it took us a long time to get going, slightly longer than we hoped."
Actually, we aren't totally convinced that Glaws EVER ot going, but they did do enough to win - and that's the main thing.
Even allowing for injuries, there's still plenty of time for them to hit their real form this season - but let's not leave it too late, eh?

positives; Balsh was superb best game I have seen from him for a long time really took responsibility for getting the 3/4s moving. Scott Lawson went well, good in tight and loose and big slow forwards stayed out of the 3/4s and got them some good ball for once.
Negatives; defence again looked weak, still basic errors, Tinds still cant pass/wont offload and Buxton has looked off the pace all season.
