We got at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit just few minutes before the 9 AM. Hopefully, we were there before the roll-out. Drivers were looking relaxed, after few minutes they were asked to take off the cover from the car, which was standing on the starting straight. After few seconds everybody was (well, for sure – I was) a bit surprised and maybe disappointed that a car is almost the same as It was in November and December of 2008.
Just after that, there were arranged short photo sessions with both drivers and a car, the car only, Robert and the car, Nick and the car and finally drivers, directors and the car. The first lap done by Robert was successful, the car was working good – as it was working good all the day long. After few minutes, the team was answering for the general questions asked by a master of ceremony. You could read the conference on our website so I do not include this part, but what is important to emphasize, Professor Mario Theissen has announced that the suspension and in general, the chassis has been developed with comparison to F1.08B. But later on, we have noticed some other changes in the car. Moreover, he said for the first time that they are not sure about the use of KERS in Australia. The same is about the drivers’ press conference, nothing special and new was said. The worst position has Christian Klien, who wants to become a team’s cook as he has little work to do now! (due to the banned tests during the season).
Personally I hope he will have a chance to practice in F1.09. Few minutes after midday, Robert had left the pitlane to start ordinary developing tests. Unfortunately, there was little grip on track – as I was the first day of the tests. Luckily, all the systems in the car was working good, Robert even trained starts. The lap record of that day was not given, but it was written in the forum and we can roughly say that this time for that day was relatively good. When the grip improved few days later, time was also improved and seems to be really good (around 1.12). As it was just a beginning of the improvement, we may expect good performance in 2009 by BMW Sauber.
Here you have got my photo done during the event, if you wish to have any of them in bigger (~2000x2500px) just email me: mexi1988@gmail.com
