March 9 2009
Scuderia Toro Rosso today became the last team to launch their 2009 spec car, at Barcelona, and will take to the track in the final test session before the season starts in Melbourne.

The STR4, which was launched ahead of the final test at Barcelona today, will be driven by Sebastien Bourdais and Sebastien Buemi for the 2009 Formula One season.

Despite the car fundamentals being designed by Red Bull Technologies, for such things as the length, wheelbase, weight distribution and other basic metric measurements.

Both Toro Rosso Technical Director: Giorgio Ascanelli and Toro Rosso Team Manager, both echo the points that the car is still very much a Toro Rosso.

“Red Bull Technology does extremely significant work in defining the essential characteristics of the new car: its length, wheelbase, weight distribution, its basic metric characteristics,” explained Technical Director Giorgio Ascanelli.

“However, with any F1 car, the packaging revolves around an engine and peculiarities from the drivers and, as we run a different engine to our sister team, it involves a different fuel system and fuel tank.

Therefore, ours is completely different to the Red Bull Racing car and is designed here by us."

“If you take parts manufactured in the factory or purchased directly by us, almost 100 percent of the car is made in-house," echoed Team Manager Gianfranco Fantuzzi. "Our procurement department processes 14,000 drawings, including those for car components, jigs, tooling, assembly and so on."
