Scuderia Toro Rosso has opted to field two new drivers for it's 2012 F1 campaign: One of them was already known to the squad from Faenza after his stint as their test driver during the 2010 and first half of the 2011 seasons. For the balance of '11 STR loaned him out to HRT to gain valuable GP race experince.

Daniel Ricciardo is a twenty-two year-old native of Perth, Australia who has been racing since he started in karts at age nine. Like many young drivers, after leaving karts behind in 2006 Daniel competed in several different series simultaneously, though not always a full season in each, for the next five years. He drove in Formulas BMW, Renault 2.0 and 3.5 as well as Forumla Three, notching twenty-eight victories and two championships (2008 Fromula Renault 2.0 WEC & 2009 British Formula Three Championship) along the way. He also has two series championship runner-up results to his credit.

On December 14 Toro Rosso annouced Ricciardo and Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne as their drivers for the 2012 season.
