Adrian Sutil is a fairly new addition to the world of Formula 1. In his rookie season, the young German made a good reputation for himself, comprehensively beating his teammates throughout the 2007 season.

His impressive performances linked his name with possible drives for Toyota, replacing Ralf Schumacher, and McLaren, replacing Fernando Alonso. Eventually, Adrian was announced as a Force India driver for 2008, remaining at the Silverstone-based team for another season. With experienced F1 veteran Giancarlo Fisichella as his teammate in 2008, it will be interesting to see if Sutil performs comparably.

Career at a glance:

1997-2001: Karting
Adrian began karting at the age of 14. He finished 3rd in the German ICA championship with PCR Germany in 2000, before moving to the Kart European Championship in 2001. There he scored one pole with Birel Motorsport.

2002: Swiss Formula Ford
Adrian totally dominated the season taking 12 poles and turning them all in to wins in a season with 12 races!

2003: German Formula BMW
Adrian finished sixth overall in the German Formula BMW championship with Team HBR Motorsport. Along the way he scored two poles and four podiums.

2004 - 2005: F3 Euroseries
Adrian scored 2 poles but only nine points in his first season in the F3 Euroseries with Team Kolles. A move to ASM for the final round of the year, and subsequently 2005, would see an upturn in his fortunes. Partnered with Lewis Hamilton in 2005, the Briton convincingly won the series with Adrian second, scoring 2 poles and 2 victories along the way. He also finished runner-up at Hamilton at the Marlboro Masters of Formula Three race.

2005: A1 GP
Adrian missed the final two rounds of the F3 Euroseries in 2005 to race for Team Germany in A1 GP. He entered three races with a best result of two 12th places.

2006: All Japan Formula Three & Super GT, F1 (Test Driver)
Adrian won the All Japan F3 series in 2006 and also finished third at the Macau Formula Three Grand Prix. He made a one-off appearance at the Japanese Super GT scoring six points. Adrian was also one of Midland MF1's test drivers, being entered as third driver for 3 GPs. By the time of his final appearance, the team had rebranded as Spyker MF1.

2007-2008: Formula 1
Adrian was announced as a Spyker F1 driver for 2007 and regularly beat his more experienced teammate Christijan Albers. Albers was later dropped, and replaced for one race by Markus Wilkelhock. Winkelhock led his one and only race due to the team's smart strategy in the adverse weather conditions, but later retired. Ex-F1 driver Sakon Yamamoto was brought in for the latter part of the season - Sutil showed him up, too.

Sutil will remain at the team in 2008 as it rebrands as Force India F1.
