FI doing wonders for F1 popularity in India
By Karl King April 23 2008
After the coming and going of Narain Karthikeyan, FIF1 is now India's biggest thing in motorsport. Since the arrival of a team named after the country, the population has begun to get behind the team with its support, adding a new audience to Formula 1. The influence of India in the sport is increasing with the first Indian GP scheduled for 2010.

FI MD Vijay Mallya said, "Our relative success has led to the popularity of Formula One growing exponentially in India.

"We've attracted a lot of positive print and TV coverage back home and everyone is congratulating the team on the progress we have made.

"We are deploying all our resources to keep it up and make sure that the team, and in turn the sport, retains this wave of support."

After giant leaps from where the team was last year under the Spyker brand, Mallya is cautious yet optmistic that progress can continue, "We're no longer at the back and though it will get tougher here on in, it's a golden opportunity for us."

The team will see any improvements made at the recent Barcelona test when F1 returns to the track to race this weekend.
