Happy with lap times despite only ninth fastest

Liuzzi in action today
By Force India F1 May 14 2008
Force India's test and reserve driver Vitantonio Liuzzi today opened the team's three-day test at the Circuit de Castellet Paul Ricard track in France. Running on the 2D-SC short configuration of the circuit, Tonio worked through a programme to establish a baseline set-up for the remaining two days of the test and also tested the team's 'Monaco spec' aero developments -

- a high-downforce package designed for the challenges of the twisty street circuit race.Tonio completed 106 laps with a best lap of 1min 07.346 using only the harder Bridgestone tyre compound available at this test.

Adrian Sutil will take over from Tonio tomorrow morning, before handing the wheel to Giancarlo Fisichella in the afternoon. The duo will spend the day on the Monaco-esque configuration of the track to test the Monte Carlo aero package before spending Friday on the longer version of the track preparing for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Team quotes
Dominic Harlow, chief race and test engineer

'Today's programme run on the short track simulation circuit layout was to evaluate a complete new front suspension for the VJM01, and to validate the package of aerodynamic changes that will be raced in Monaco next week. During a busy day the team also worked on some ongoing development items in other mechanical areas of the car. The circuit was initially a little green, but the weather conditions have not been too bad with mild temperatures, a fairly light wind and slowly the grip improved during the day. We continue tomorrow on the same circuit with both race drivers planning to devote most of their track time to prepare for the Monaco Grand-Prix.'

Tonio Liuzzi
'We did more than 100 laps with no reliability problems today, which let us test some new development items for Monaco, including some of the new aero parts, and some new updates to the suspension. We had to work on the balance a bit at first to adjust to the new items, but over the longer runs it was very consistent and we could make some steps forward. As we only used the hard tyre today the lap times were pretty good in comparison to the other teams who used the soft tyre, which gives a big performance advantage over the harder compound. I think today was quite a good start for the test.'

well I dunno who set up this bot..but eh...this sounds more like a ridiculous spam post rather than something that is realistic and cool.

9 out of 10, and that in testing where so many different setups occoured and on a track that makes unsaying stuff.

I mean, we do not need this post here.

This place there is just a piece of dust in motor sports testing, it does NOT AT ALL give out any info about the true stands how we will look like at Monaco.

I don't think that was written by a bot, Keiba - to judge by the author given, it'll have been written by the PR staff at Force India.

Last-but-one, by Liuzzi's standards is an improvement, though to be fair I haven't seen di Grassi test a Renault in a while. You have a point that Monaco is unlike any other track, but today and tomorrow are as good an early predictor as we are going to get...

Because they do say something - just not necessarily what it initially looks like they mean. For instance, Liuzzi getting off the foot of the testing timesheets may have implications for his future employability - maybe putting himself in consideration for a full-time ride somewhere in 2009 (it's a bit early to be confident of that, and much too early for any "Sutil-to-be-replaced-soon" stories to be plausible). It suggests that Lucas di Grassi is going to need a fair bit of time to be ready for F1 (and therefore that any "Piquet-to-be-replaced-soon" stories are equally implausible).

Judging by the technical report on Autosport, there are no obvious visual differences between the Force India tested and the Force India in Turkey two weeks ago, other than those that suggest the general shift from mid- to high-downforce layout. That's useful to know.

The utility of the tests depends on how you look at them. You are right to be sceptical of the positions and utterly dismissive of the times, but sometimes the little details of tests have big consequences. Hopefully this time the consequences for Force India will not be as large as those for Toro Rosso last test, when they had to delay bringing out their new car for two weeks...

They do say nothing because as I said before the whole blabla ninth-place is nothing worth.

TEN cars only, if it would be out of 22, yea maybe...but still, it's not because I hold nothing of Fuzzi, it's because they just say nothing, you can not at all compare the times here because: so many different set-ups, and some even on purpose, like Toyota, with high downforce, so it's no wonder that for example Renault is slower.

One turn at the wings can change your lap time by a fraction of a second.

And you can shove your reports and blabla around Tuzzi up your jacksie, I do not care a bit for him.

Ahhh, well... I should have guessed it all in the first place. So all your previous comments have to do with certain rumours of Sutil's replacement if he does not deliver! smiling smiley

I thought you would know that replacements are decisions mainly taken in GP weekends. But don't be afraid - Sutil is in for at least until the end of the season (if there isn't any major incident, that is!)

Cheers,
SdL

As Alianora says, this is a Force India press release.

I can't see what is ridiculous about it...it is just an article relating to the day's test. It makes no unfounded comments about where the team will be in Monaco or anything...

ahemmm... wasn't really talking about love or intimate stuff.

Anyway... we're still in the bottom of the sheets. Let's hope it's not for long and the new developments can really make a positive effect!

Cheers,
SdL
