Liuzzi: New gearbox ready to go
By Phil Huff July 28 2008
Following four days of testing in Jerez last week, Force India's Vitantonio Liuzzi is confident that the team's new seamless shift gearbox will be ready to run at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Liuzzi completed a single day of testing with the new 'box, running over 100 laps without any significant problems.
"It was a good day of testing with more than 100 laps," explained the Italian to Autosport.com, "so it was quite positive. Finally we put on the track the seamless shift and seems like it is working properly.

"For sure, we have to tune it better for the final version in Hungary, but we are happy because it was quite reliable," he continued. "Hopefully there will be no problems for the rest of the test, and we will be ready to run it in Budapest."

The seamless shift gearbox will finally give the team roughly equal capabilities in that department as the rest of the grid, making a gain of around 0.2 seconds a lap. Over the course of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the gearbox could be worth as much as 15 seconds, enough to pass a few other cars in the results table.

"At the moment what is important is to do the kilometres and see that everything is reacting in the right way," added Liuzzi. "We did a lot of kilometres and a lot of laps, so I am happy."
