No News Is Good News

The F1 world is beginning to get going again after the Christmas/New Year break. Max Mosley has been complaining about costs again (well, it is the topic of the day), Ferrari and Bernie Ecclestone have been sparring on F1's future, rumours abound over Squadra Toro Rosso's team-mates and the team formerly known as Honda is still looking for a buyer.

Apart from a rumour that Vijay Mallya might be an outsider for the Brackley brigade, Force India haven't been mentioned in connection with any of the stories. This is good news.

The silence on costs is because Force India is cost-effective enough not to need trimming and yet has enough money not to require more cost-cutting to survive.

The silence on F1's future is because Force India's conduct is such that the powers-that-be can't hold it against them, and also because it is keeping its talking in the meetings whereit is presumably more effective.

The silence on Toro Rosso's driver line-up is because Force India's driver line-up was secured early enough that nothing Toro Rosso does will make any difference to FI's plans.

The silence on Honda is because Force India is not going away anytime soon and therefore isn't worrying about whether it might suffer Honda's fate.

When was the last winter Force India couls say all that about itself? A long time ago. Let's hope the quiet, low-distraction winter leads to a good racing car in March and plenty of success in the 2009 season!
