While Vijay Mallya left Monaco to watch his cricket team (Bangalore Royal Challengers) win the semi-final of the IPL, his Formula 1 team surprised a lot of people by making both types of tyre generate quick times for them. As a result, Adrian achieved a great 12th and Giancarlo 14th. Suddenly qualifying looks good.
10:00am - Both Force Indias are out early, Fisichella first and Sutil fourth.

10:02am - Both Force Indias pit.

10:10am - Giancarlo returns to the circuit.

10:12 - Giancarlo sets a 1:22.045.

10:13 - Giancarlo sets a 1:19.913, putting him top of the timesheets for about 30 seconds after an all-purple lap. The next lap is a 1:18.855 (which only gets second due to Glock going faster) and we get to follow most of the lap.

10:17 - Giancarlo has a 1:18.210 and the next lap features a purple S1. Only a Williams in the way stops him from getting P1. Adrian's just left the pits.

10:19 - Giancarlo has pitted, having done 8 laps on old tyres. He's currently fourth. Sutil posts a time good enough for 11th.

10:21 - Adrian sets a time good for 6th and continues to improve his time as the track gets cleaned up by the running of 16 cars.

10:24 - Adrian is 12th, his worn tyres graining, and Giacarlo has returned to the track.

10:27 - Adrian pits (having done 7 laps), while Giancarlo sets an all-green lap to take 11th.

10:30 - Giancarlo sets a 1:16.867 to take 5th.

10:34 - Giancarlo spun in the middle of the first part of the Nouvelle Chicane. This is a very unusual part of the corner to spin, but Giancarlo nonetheless caught it before the barriers were hit. However, he did pit at the end of the lap, meaning that run was only  six laps long. He is currently 6th. Adrian is 18th, having not been on track for the past seven minutes.

10:36 - Giancarlo leaves the pits again with another set of tyres.

10:40 - Adrian leaves the pits, while Giancarlo's laps at the moment are nothing to get excited about.

10:42 - Both Force Indias set a green sector 1.

10:43 - Adrian set a personal best time, but it only gets him 17th due to fighting the car a lot in the second sector. Giancarlo sets 9th.

10:45 - Adrian gets an all-green lap, 1:16.469 - good enough for 9th :)

10:46 - Giancarlo pits while Adrian improves his time slightly to secure 10th, 1.001 seconds behind Raikkonen.

10:47 - Adrian has pitted after a five-lap run.

10:52 - Giancarlo leaves the pits.

10:55 - Adrian leaves the pits as Giancarlo, despite a green Sector 1, stays in 14th.

10:56 - Giancarlo takes 11th on the next lap, whereas Adrian just misses out on improving his time.

10:58 - The next lap yields no improvement for either driver. We are also told that Vijay Mallya has missed all this because he's in South Africa watching his cricket team.

10:59 - Just before the red light goes on, Adrian gets a 1:16.228, putting him 12th, 1.064 seconds off Fernando Alonso's pace and 0.089 seconds ahead of Giancarlo.

This was an impressive session. Q2 suddenly looks very possible... ...but Monaco can be a very deceptive track.
