Turkey Free Practise 1: Wandering Astroturf

Don't worry if for whatever reason you had to miss Free Practise 1 at Turkey - you didn't miss much. The only major incident was some carpet-like astroturf coming off the run-off area into Turn 1 after several drivers ran over it. Adrian Sutil was 12th after putting in a reasonably good lap and Giancarlo Fisichella was 18th.
9:00am - Giancarlo is the fourth driver on track. Adrian, unusually, is only two cars later - Force India usually runs a bigger gap between cars.

9:32am -  Nothing much has happened so far. Please can something interesting happen soon?

9:42am - Giancarlo has left the pits on hard tyres.

9:43am - Giancarlo has gone wide at Turn 1 on his first flying lap. Adrian has left the pits on hard tyres.

9:45am -  Giancarlo sets a time good for 14th and last.

9:46am - Giancarlo sets a time of 1:32.234, good for 13th out of 17. Adrian's first lap puts him 17th, four seconds quicker and probably involved an excursion.

9:50am - Giancarlo goes 12th while Adrian is stuck in 19th despite dramatic improvement.

9:53am - Giancarlo sets a time good for 13th, about ten seconds before Adrian goes 12th. Adrian's time is a 1:30.261, 0.449 seconds slower than Massa.

9:55am - Giancarlo has pitted after eight laps.

10:00am - Adrian has pitted. Graining set in on the last complete lap, which was the tenth one. Nonetheless, he reports he is happy with the balance and consistency of the car.

10:05am - Giancarlo has left the pits again.

10:08am - Giancarlo's tyres are starting to grain.

10:12am - Giancarlo slid and kept going. He wouldn't have completed that lap anyway because the session was red-flagged. There's a metre-long hole in the astroturf on the exit of Turn 1 and bits of astroturf are all over the place. Luckily Giancarlo was near the pits at that point so didn't have to go through the area again.

10:17am - The pit exit has opened again.

10:20am - Adrian has come out onto the track.

10:21am - Giancarlo has joined the track.

10:23am - Adrian went wide at Turn 8. Neither driver is going especially quickly.

10:27am - Adrian sets a green sector 3 but doesn't improve his time - yet.

10:29am - Adrian sets green sectors 1 and 2 to take 11th place. Marvellous!

10:30am - The session has ended with some practise starts. Adrian has the 12th fastest time, a 1:29.864. This is 0.912 seconds behind Nico Rosberg, who set the pace. Giancarlo is 18th, 0.664 seconds slower than his team-mate. Between them are Glock, Piquet, Webber and the BMWs. The Squadra Toro Rossos were slower than both Force Indias.
