Turkey Free Practise 2: Still Ahead of STR
By Alianora La Canta

The second practise session was only slightly more exciting than the first session, Vettel's engine failure paused Force India's tyre evaluation efforts, but otherwise it was uneventful from FIF1's perspective - until Giancarlo Fisichella and Kazuki Nakajima collided while disputing Turn 2 at the end. Giancarlo finished 18th while Sutil was 17th. STR are still behind FIF1, though.
1:02pm - Giancarlo has left the pits, the eighth driver to set out.

1:04pm - Ian Phillips notes that it is taking FIF1 5 laps to get up to speed on the hard tyre.

1:05pm -  Giancarlo does a 1:31.740 to place himself 5th.

1:06pm - Giancarlo improves his time (now only 0.789 seconds behind Piquet Jr) but not his position. Adrian leaves the pits.

1:09pm - After an indifferent lap, Giancarlo sets green Sectors 1 and 2 to go 11th. Adrian sets a time good for 13th.

1:11pm - Giancarlo has pitted while Adrian has an indifferent lap. Possibly a Turn 1 widening was involved.

1:13pm -  Adrian has set an all-green fastest lap to go 11th with a 1:30.100. Only 0.665 seconds behind Hamilton!

1:16pm - Adrian's pitted.

1:20pm - Giancarlo has returned to the circuit.

1:25pm - Giancarlo improves to a 1:30.563, but stays 18th. Adrian leaves the pits.

1:26pm - Giancarlo sets an all-green lap to do a 1:30.091. This puts him 15th, exactly 1 second behind Nakajima and 0.009 seconds ahead of Adrian.

1:29pm - Giancarlo has pitted. He's now done 11 laps.

1:33pm - Adrian has pitted, possibly in response to Vettel's car stopping (and causing double-waved yellow flags at Turn 2) and possibly because he's now done 11 laps too.

1:42pm - Giancarlo has rejoined the circuit.

1:44pm - Giancarlo puts in a fairly slow lap, indicating the tyres in use are worn (as far as I know the soft tyres haven't been used by FIF1 yet).

1:45pm - Adrian has rejoined the track.

1:47pm - Both drivers continue to do steady laps to hone settings rather than going for fast times.

1:57pm - Giancarlo sets a green sector 1. Unfortunately, the other two sectors are a shade slower than before and there is no improvement in time.

2:01pm - Giancarlo pits and Adrian improves his time to 1:30.081. This places him 17th, 1.240 seconds faster than Kovalainen and 0.010 seconds ahead of Giancarlo.

2:09pm - Giancarlo has returned to the track.

2:16pm - Adrian has left the pits. Giancarlo is doing some fairly slow times, indicating graining.

2:22pm - Giancarlo has pitted. Adrian continues to do solid rather than spectacular laps.

2:24pm - Adrian has pitted. Both drivers are preparing for qualifying simulations at the end of the session.

2:28pm - Giancarlo and Kazuki crashed into each other in Turn 2 after disputing a piece of track. This was due to Giancarlo's car sliding out from underneath him. Both continue, but it hasn't done much for either driver's lap.

2:30pm - The session ends with a practise start from the grid. Adrian is 17th and Giancarlo 18th. Not the most promising of starts, but then neither was Monaco.
