Force India's Friday potential wasted

Given the start of the weekend with Adrian topping the time sheets for the first practice session there was huge optimism for the rest of the race weekend. Unfortunately, as the weather dried up, so did the teams chances of putting in a mental performance for Saturday's third practice session and qualifying.

Free practice three saw Adrian Sutil suffer a drive shaft failure causing him to return to the garage at a snails pace.  The problem meant that he was out of the car and in the back of the garage.  It also meant that the cars gearbox had to be changed which resulted in a five place grid penalty for the race tomorrow.

All hopes would therefore be pinned on Liuzzi to put in a sterling performance in free practice to show us all how he is able to drive the car that Sutil seems to do so easily.  Free practice ended with Tonio in 17th position and again complaining about traffic.

Qualifying was a total disaster for Liuzzi, putting the car into the wall on the start finish straight and stopping the session.  He put the rear onto the artificial turf which had retained a bit of water, the back end stepped out and he skidded across the track into the wall on the opposite side of the grey.  If the team can get the car rebuilt, he'll be starting from the pit lane.

The team confirmed on their Facebook feed that "Tonio's car will be repared overnight and he will start tomorrow."

Adrian as usual flew through the knockout zone for Qualifying One and put the car up into 12th place just behind compatriots Rosberg and Schumacher.

Qualifying Two started well for Adrian as he placed the car into 7th place early on in the session.  He fell back to 14th place behind the Renault of Vitaly Petrov.

With three minutes to go, there was no sign that he'd improve on the position with Alonso taking the top spot.

When the penalty is applied Adrian will be starting the race in 19th place with one heck of a job to do in tomorrows Grand Prix.

The promise shown by the team on Friday morning has burst the bubble.  Points are still a possibility given a good race strategy tomorrow but it's not going to be easy.
