Quiet Qualification for Super Aguri
By SA07 July 7 2007
The pretty much sell out crowd at Silverstone got a treat as Lewis Hamilton once again delivered the goods and got pole. Kimi Raikkonen looked much faster but thanks to a slight mistake he arrived across the line in p2. Fernando Alonso proved the hard specification of tyre was faster than the soft in p3.

Air Temperature 19.1°C minimum, 23.6°C maximum
Track Temperature 28.8°C minimum, 47.0°C maximum

The rookie from Stevenage Lewis Hamilton gave the crowd what they came for in p1 while the flying Finn Kimi Raikkonen made a mistake and couldn’t match him in p2. Double world champion Fernando Alonso qualified p3 much faster on the harder specification of tire than the soft. The Spaniard has won here twice and looks to go for the hatrick ending a chain of winless races.Felipe Massa starts 4th in the Ferrari vs McLaren battle and Robert Kubica will start in 5th place hoping for yet another strong weekend. The biggest shock of qualifying was that Ralf Schumacher put the Toyota to 6th place out pacing both Renaults of Kovalienen 7th and Fisichella 8th. Nick Heidfeld starts 9th the outcome of the very close midfield battle. 10th lines up Jarno Trulli rounding off the top ten.Webber outpaces his brit team mate in 11th and Coulthard 12th which is pretty solid for both Red Bulls. Alex Wurz has a successful quali in 13th after lingering down the time sheets all year. Barrichello was the sole remaining Honda in session 2 in 14th with Speed in 15th outpacing his team mate in 16th place.

Rosberg has a shocking qualifying performance in 17th but has a misfire problem. Button will start 18th after having yet another call to the weighbridge hampering his runs. Davidson didn’t help him either in 19th after spinning out which means both Aguris didn’t make it into the second knockout session. Sutil starts 20th and Takuma Sato runs to 21st place being outpaced by one of the Spyker cars. Albers rounds up the top 22 in 22nd.

Comments from Super Aguri F1
Takuma Sato

"We need to find out what was wrong with the car. It was not performing well and I never got comfortable grip or stability. It is disappointing as yesterday we made some progress and this morning we tried to improve the performance again for Qualifying, but the speed was not there. On my final lap I was trapped by the Yellow Flag, so I could not improve on my lap time, so I am disappointed."

Anthony Davidson

"It was obviously a disappointing Qualifying session. It was always going to be tough trying to get into Q2 today. The car again did not quite have the speed like we saw in Magny-Cours, but I was confident that I could have pulled something out of the bag, until the last run, when I came out in a sea of traffic ahead of me on the opening of my lap as they came out of the pits, so I decided to abort the lap. I tried to find a good space and get a bit more heat into the rear tyres, but basically I overcooked it coming out of Brooklands, trying to get as much force into the tyres as possible and the car snapped on me. I still believe that we have a better race car than Qualifying and you never know, the British weather can be unpredictable, so I am looking forward to my first British Grand Prix tomorrow."

Graham Taylor, Sporting Director

"Poor. It's been getting tighter and tighter all year. This is one of the bigger circuits, so you'd think that there would be a bit more latitude, but there wasn't. Our cars did not have the performance today and again our Qualifying session was not error free."
