F1 has forgotten "Raça Bonito"
By June 28 2006
We can complain about all these technical regulations, engines, about how the sport is governed, but it seems many of us are forgetting something that has become very fundamentally wrong in F1, as I shall explain.

Almost every other weekend we hear how one F1 driver is devising how he will exact some sort of revenge because he was blocked or whatever, or (mentioning no names) we see foul play such as purposely blocking up part of the track or backing cars up by an unreasonable amount to gain any advantage. Very recently there have even been cases of Drivers deliberately cutting corners multiple times during the race.

Not only is this bad for F1 as a motor sport, or the reputation of F1 and their talented F1 drivers, but for the many spectators especially those who are young and may some day make it as a professional racing driver. When watching those competing at the very top, those idols that our future race drivers aspire to, what effect will it have when they see some of Motor sports very best make some foul moves such as blocking another race driver, or swearing to get their own back in some devious way? It is not just our F1 Drivers, what about our future engineers? When they see teams deliberately cheating by making parts of the car that are illegal such as secret fuel tanks and flexi wings, what message are those working in the top of their profession giving out to the future people of F1?

So I say enough! There should be a campaign similar to that of football which promotes fair play, skill, Honor and another attribute I don't want to say because I don't want to be sued. The FIA or large powers in F1 or whoever need to create something that promotes the key attributes for motor racing, stamp out bad morals in racing early on and replace it with something more positive then what we are seeing on TV every fortnight on a Saturday and Sunday, supposedly “the pinnacle of motor sport”. The cars are beautiful, the drivers are (sometimes) beautiful so why is the racing so ugly? There needs to be a campaign that promotes "beautiful racing", showcase great talents seen at their best, amazing driving skills and honor, and promote this as the attitude our young racing drivers of the future should hold, not that mentality of "win at all costs" which seems to be the negative message in F1 at the moment. Whatever happened to the amazing skills, daring drives, racing spirit and honor?

Together with Motor racing as a whole, even me and you, together we can help make Racing beautiful again - Raça Bonito my friends.
