And that answer is: no.
During qualifications on Saturday, Helio's car developed a throttle issue that forced him to pull off-course and not make a qualification attempt: he even asked a group of fans on a nearby grassy hill for a screwdriver so that he could attempt to remove the engine cowling himself! As Helio failed to post a time, he will start in last (26th) spot on the grid.
Meanwhile his Penske teammate, Ryan Briscoe, will be on the opposite end of the grid, having won the pole position after the three rounds of "knockout" qualifying were over. This is his second career IndyCar pole, the previous one comming in 2005 at Sonoma when he drove for the Ganassi squad.
After hovering around in the back half of the top ten on the speed charts though the Friday practice sessions, Ryan and the team worked on the car overnight. "We were able to carry some speed through the corners and that is big around here. We were able to tweak it and it worked out."
Starting alongside Ryan on the outside of the front row will be Justin Wilson from the Newman-Haas-Lanigan team. "We're getting used to this track quite quickly. It's a matter of getting used to your car and the slightest change to the setup makes a huge difference because the setups are so high. We've been quick in the practice sessions and thought we were capable. Fortunately my engineer did a great job making a couple of subtle changes and it worked quite well. I was pleased with the car."
Here is the complete starting grid:
