Dixon Notches Another Win
By Andrew Cutler July 28 2008
Scott Dixon continues to hold the lead in the 2008 IndyCar Series championship after winning Saturday evening at the Rexall Edmonton Indy, a "road" race where the course is actually laid out on the airport tarmac of the Canadian city. His main '08 series rival, Helio Castroneves, finished in 2nd.

Helio & his Penske teammate, Ryan Briscoe, would start on the front row & duel for the early lead. Briscoe would later spin out, falling down the race order, but would recover to finish in sixth spot. Justin Wilson would notch a season-best 3rd place finish, and Canadian Paul Tracy, making his first IndyCar start on the year, would bring the car home in 4th after an impressive run.

There were a couple of notable incidents throughout the race. Graham Rahal would be run into twice; once early on by Mario Moraes, & then later by EJ Viso. The second hit would force Rahal to retire & land Viso a stop-&-go penalty on pit lane. The other notable incident would happen late in the going when Marco Andretti slid into the rear of teammate Danica Patrick, puncturing a tire and forcing both drivers into the pits for repairs.

Castroneves was tracking down Dixon in the final laps when he overshot the apex of a corner and was forced to back off, leaving Scott free to drive off into the distance and pick up his fifth win of the season. "I think at this point in the championship battle, it's a must-have for Team Target," said Dixon. "Helio has been very strong in the last two races. He's been trying to chase us down, but we were able to make a small gain on him this weekend.

"At this point, I think a 65-point lead is pretty strong. We just have to keep on it for the next four races. We need to be consistent and continue to earn points. This win was definitely a turn for us in the championship."
