On Thursday the Miami Herald broke a story stating that IndyCar driver Helio Castroneves, a Miami area resident, will be turning himself into federal authorities on Friday to face charges of tax evasion. Helio, his sister and his lawyer have all been charged with hiding some five million dollars in an off-shore account.

The affable Brazilian has driven for Team Penske since 2000, winning 13 races (including two Indy 500s) but never quite clinching the season championship. If convicted, he could face prision time of up to a couple of years, which would likey end his career. I'll keep everyone posted as the story unfolds.

Say it ain't so, Helio...

This is pure harassment the way they paraded him around and made him do the "perp" walk all shackled up. Ridiculous.

I hope this blows up in their faces like the Duke Lacrosse situation...

This isn't some county prosecutor looking to make a name for himself: this is the IRS, & they don't make a habit of going "high profile" like this unless they think that they've already got the goods on the defendant.

Just tell me it isn't so.
He can't even leave the country to compete.
Lots of trouble if he's guilty.
To get charged is not good. The Feds don't go to trial without lots to back them up. 5 million off shore is only OK if you are with it.
He may end up doing the rear end tango, and for sure not with the stars.
