The win was Dixon's third of the year (having already won at Kansas and Milwaukee) and nineteenth overall, moving the Kiwi into a tie with former series driver Sam Hornish Jr. for the most victories since the inception of the IRL back in 1996. For his part, Dario Franchitti's second place result moved him up into the lead of the 2009 points chase.
Team Penske would have frustrating night, with Ryan Briscoe falling to third in the championship hunt after his car snapped lose on him and hit the wall in the early laps. Later on Helio Castroneves would also wreck as he tried to avoid rear-ending the suddenly slowing car of Tomas Scheckter.
NHL's Graham Rahal would post his result so far this year with a third place finish. The AGR quartet would take the next four spots in the following order; Mutoh, Patrick, Kanaan & Andretti.

After six consecutive ovals, the squads of the IndyCar Series will now tackle the heart of their road/street program over the next two months, with stops at Watkins Glen, Toronto & Edmonton before an oval race at Kentucky. Then it will be back to road courses at Mid Ohio and Sonoma.
