When the Englishman first rolled onto the IMS track five months ago with car, driver's suit and helmet all in HER pink, the jokes came pouring out from fans and reporters - until "Pink Lloyd" (as the most popular comment went) went out and qualified in a very respectable 11th grid spot.
This time around, the HER sponsorship also comes with a secial cause to promote; cancer research and awareness, The car will carry a rather unusual number, 40202. This corresponds to a cell phone "text to donate" number where fans can contribute $5 towards cancer research: Just enter the number & then text the word "Stand" (I am uncertain as to the dates during which this will be active).
"I’m honored to participate in such a worthwhile cause and to help the fight against cancer," Lloyd told reporters. "For this race I will be dusting off the pink helmet and getting another pink firesuit so I guess Pink Lloyd is back."
Lloyd wont be the only driver at Homestead-Miami sporting a pink livery. Sarah Fisher's #67 car, which normally carries the yellow & black of Dollar General Stores, will be promoting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation, which rasies money for breast cancer research, will also be in pink.
The season-ending Firestone Indy 300, at Homestead-Miami Speedway, will be run on Saturday, Oct 10 at 4pm ET/8pm GMT.
