The series, which featured two-liter formula cars, was instrumental in the early careers of current and former IndyCar stars such as Dan Wheldon, Buddy Rice and Sam Hornish Jr. By making it a formal part of the IRL, the League hopes to mark out a strait path for up-and-comming drivers to follow - should they prove to be capable - to advance to the Firestone Indy Lights and, eventually, the IndyCar ranks.
While the final details of the revived series have yet to be determined, it is currently envisioned that many of the cars being used in other F2000 and Formula Continental series will be eligible to participate. A twelve race schedule, featuring mostly double-header weekends, seems to be the plan at this time: How many of them will coincide with IndyCar/Indy Lights events is uncertain. Races will be 50 miles in length.
I will add a tab to this site's left-side menu spelling out the car specs and schedule once the details become finalized.
