Wilson Stumbles: Power Capitalizes
By Andrew Cutler
July 19 2010
It was a wild, incident-filled melee as the IndyCar Series held it's second annual race through the streets of Toronto. Tight, and often blind, corners and a variable track surface (due to concrete 'patches') made for alot of crunched cars as drivers struggled with grip and selecting the best braking points.

Polesitter Justin Wilson lead the early going, but would surrender the lead for the middle half of the event as differing fuel and tire strategies played out up and down pit lane. By lap 57 (of 85), however, the Englishman was back at the point and looked to be untouchable.

Then yet another crash-induced yellow flag bunched the field. Comming to the restart, Wilson lost the rear-end grip on his car, which allowed 2nd place Will Power to slip by. Pushing hard to catch and repass him, Wilson spun his car completely around as he tried to negotiate Turn 8. “We had the pace,” Wilson said. “I got sideways through Turn 7, got on the brakes, locked the rears and just couldn’t get them unlocked in time for the corner. I felt like I had a left rear puncture, but the guys came on the radio after and said the car was OK.”

But the damage to his race was done. Wilson could only sit and watch as most of the field drove by while he waited for an opening to get going in the right direction again.

Power lead the last thirteen laps uncontested to win his fourth race of the year. Dario Franchitti finished second, and Ryan Hunter-Reay came home in third. here are the complete race results: http://www.indycar.com/var/assets/HONDAINDYTORONTOBOXSCORE.pdf

Earlier in the day, JK Vernay won the Firestone Indy Lights Series support race: It was also his fourth victory of the year.

Next up for the IndyCar Series will be the Honda Indy Edmonton on Sunday, July 25 at 5pm ET/10pm GMT.
