More doubts over the future of Campos Meta
By Emma York
February 5 2010
The scent of problems is in the air. People are talking and the media are speculating on the future of a new face in motor sport’s pinnacle: Formula One. Yes Campos Meta are a team under pressure as they strive to secure their future as an F1 outfit.

Several reports in the media have placed the Campos Team at the centre of speculation about their future in Formula One. The team is new to the sport and was hoping to be on the grid for the first race of the season in Bahrain. However, there has been talk of a buyout by South African businessman Tony Teixeira who recently saw his A1GP Series go into liquidation. The links between Teixeira and the Campos team have prompted links to be made with A1GP champion Adam Carroll and the second driver’s seat alongside Bruno Senna.

Campos Meta team principle Adrian Campos has said that he hopes to resolve the problems: “sometimes we pay the installment of 7m Euros to Dallara and sometimes we don’t have the money – we are trying to solve the problem.”

Also in the statement Campos mentioned that payments to Dallara were shaky. Dallara are the Italian engineering company that is working on building the Campos Team’s car. Campos also denied reports that the Italians had pulled out of the contract: “No, they (Dallara) can’t do that – we have a contract with them.”

More doubts were cast when it was reported that the Stefan GP team were moving equipment out into the Sakhir deserts to be ready in case a team drops out. There is an agreement that Stefan GP will be granted Formula One status if one of the existing teams drops out. As we all know, it takes a lot of money and effort to fly out such equipment so the chances of a team dropping out could be higher than first thought.

Stefan GP is allegedly trying to secure the services of two drivers which adds more pressure on the future of the Campos Team. The hints are that Kazuki Nakajima formerly of Williams and Ralf Schumacher will take the seats.

The rumors surrounding Stefan GP’s involvement in the sport have also been fuelled by the possibility that the USF1 team won’t make the grid for 2010 as well as the fact that they had already secured designs from Toyota before they left the sport at the end of 2009.

Bad times at Campos are continuing and only time can tell if the team will be sticking around. Completely Campos Meta is also hearing that Teixeira could have struck a deal with the team but nothing has been made official as of yet.
