Rain may spoil week's 4-day testing

Massa testing at Valencia

Weather forecasters are predicting rains at Jerez, Spain, where the second round of testing for F1 cars would take place. The testing would be resuming at the Jerez circuit for four days, starting from Feb. 10 - 13.

Though the chances of rains are said to be strong only on one of the days, most forecasters are calling for intermittent rains on all the four days.

With limited testing rules in place, rains would prove to be setback for teams doing their first testing for the new season, especially the newer and smaller teams who need valuable data to set up the cars for the season opener.

The teams that are geared up for their first test are Red Bull, Force India and Virgin. They would be joined by all the teams that tested last week viz., Ferrari, McLaren, Renault, Sauber, Mercedes, Williams and Torro Rosso.

Ferrari who had posted the fastest time on all the first three days of testing last week, would be the team to beat.

Autosport reports the team would be bringing some mechanical developments for testing this week, while more aero updates are likely in the following round of testing at the same track, from 17th.

The team likely to challenge Ferrari's timing and the most eagerly awaited on track, are the Red Bull team. The last year's car design had proven a benchmark for most of the teams on the grid for the current season, and fans are waiting to see what Adrian Newey have to offer this year.

If the weather stays fine, the outcome would pretty much give a rough idea on where each team stands.
