The weather was a major player today at Jerez, with rain interrupting proceedings in both sessions of the scheduled test. Limited running saw Nico Rosberg of Mercedes quickest with a time of 1m.20.927s, set in the dry in the morning.

Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest for Ferrari, and had consistent times in the wet, running for 88 laps. He was satisfied with the work done and stated that the car was easy to drive in the wet.  Chris Dyer, head of race engineering for Ferrari expressed similar sentiments on Ferrari's official site and said reliability was the main focus of the day, and that the results were good in this regard. He reiterated that it was still difficult to gauge the performance of the F10 against its competitors.

 

The rain and bleak conditions did not put a damper on the much anticipated unveiling of the new Red Bull challenger, the RB6, which made its debut during the test.  Mark Webber ran for 47 laps before stopping on track with an oil leak that forced an engine change.  Force India and Virgin were the other debutants today but Timo Glock could only manage 5 laps in the Virgin, the least of any of the teams. Amongst the other runners, Nico Hulkenberg was impressive, setting the fastest time in the wet with Williams.

 The wet weather gave teams a chance to test with rain tires, though the hope is for dry conditions tomorrow when testing resumes. This will see the same drivers take to the track with the only change being Michael Schumacher in for Rosberg at Mercedes.
