Productive day for Ferrari at Jerez

It was a very productive and intense day’s work for Fernando Alonso at Jerez today. The Ferrari driver tested for race simulations with long runs in the morning, and tried various set-ups in the afternoon.

The weather co-operated, allowing for the use of dry weather tires. Although Alonso only finished 7th in the timesheets with a time of 1m.21.424s, he concentrated mainly on long runs. He ran for 48 laps in one stint before lunch and ended the day with 129 laps in total-the most of any driver.

During his long run, the focus was on the performance of the tires at varying fuel loads. He was happy with the test and pleased that the team had managed a lot of laps without any reliability issues.

Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi spent most of the time atop the timesheets but was displaced right at the end of the day by Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber, who had a best time of 1m.19.950s. Jenson Button finished the day 3rd for McLaren, while Nico Hulkenberg, hampered earlier with an oil leak, finished 4th for Williams.

                                                                                                

Force India’s Toni Liuzzi impressed in 5th and Michael Schumacher finished the day in 6th, just ahead of Alonso. It was another miserable day for Virgin, with Timo Glock suffering a spectacular front wing failure on track and managing only 11 laps. Robert Kubica made an appearance for Renault, instead of Vitaly Petrov, who resumes testing tomorrow. 

Felipe Massa takes over for Ferrari tomorrow in what promises to be another rainy day.
