"With Felipe we had a problem with the gearbox. With Fernando in the (engine) programming we were not sure what we did. We pulled him in, fixed it first time. It is good to see the car going well, but it is a shame to have one car first when the other is last. The start is a crucial moment as we have seen - we need to concentrate on that at the moment, " quoted team boss Stefano Domenicali.
Speaking on his performance today, Alonso said, "Obviously, as you saw, it was not an easy qualifying session. We had very little time to race in dry conditions, it seemed to remain damp here throughout. We were not 100% confident on some of the corners in practice, but by the time Q3 came about, I could push harder and both my tyres worked really well."
"I was quite happy with my lap, I didn't know if it was good enough for pole but we got 100% out of the car today. We had a problem in Q2 with the mapping in the car but we changed it, and by Q3 it was ok and I got the time," he said.
It would be interesting to see whether Alonso can hold his position at the start of the race tomorrow, as he has been quite tentative this season during his starts.
