The Scuderia Ferrari team have fired suspected saboteur Nigel Stepney, amidst speculation that he had intentionally impeded the progress and damaged the results of the team. Ferrari is investigating if indeed Stepney carried out actions which damaged the team's World Championship challenge and have launched a legal campaign against the Briton.

The specific actions which Nigel is being accused of have not been disclosed, but it is suspected that he tampered with the fuel tanks on the F2007 before the Monte Carlo Grand Prix. Team spokesperson Luca Colajanni had this to say:

"An internal disciplinary procedure has been completed and Nigel Stepney is no longer an employee of Ferrari."

Stepney of course denies any allegations of sabotage or espionage and will likely sue Ferrari for defamation of character and wrongful dismissal.

"I have confidence I'll be cleared by the legal process that is now taking place. It is just part of a dirty tricks campaign and everything is in the hands of my lawyer, so we'll wait and see what happens."
